The onset of psychosis or schizophrenia typically arises during adolescence or young adulthood. A majority of people in this age range that are from Western countries have access to a smartphone. This has sparked research to discover ways to utilize these devices to treat and manage the symptoms of people within this population. We are conducting a review to better understand what technology is out there or being created to serve adolescents and young people experiencing early psychosis or schizophrenia.
The studies referenced within the review were discovered through a systematic search on four databases — PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBASE.
The information collected from the databases will help people understand how smartphones are currently being used to supplement treatment as usual for people with early onset psychosis and schizophrenia.
The results from this study will be shared with early psychosis programs around the country. We will also use results to inform site visits where we will partner with patients, family member, and clinicians.
