James Benoit, PhD

Associate Director

James Benoit, PhD, is associate director of the digital psychiatry division, in the Department of Psychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliated teaching hospital. He has a background in neuroscience, ethics, sustainability, and machine learning, and received undergraduate and graduate training at the University of British Columbia before attending the University of Alberta for his doctorate in psychiatry. Dr. Benoit is active in investigating how mobile technologies can be integrated in psychiatric practice and has worked broadly with industry leaders in AI, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. His current projects focus on improving psychiatric treatment adherence and predicting disease relapse using digital phenotyping through mobile platforms (phones and wearables), and he serves as an editor for an academic journal on technology and mental health, JMIR Mental Health.
